SOLD - Vintage Martin 000-28 - USA 1976

Here is a Martin 000-28, one of the most enduring and respected acoustic guitar designs in Martin’s long history. The 000 body size sits between parlour and dreadnought dimensions, offering a more intimate feel while still delivering impressive balance, projection, and tonal depth. The “28” specification reflects its classic tonewood pairing of solid Sitka spruce top with solid rosewood back and sides, a combination that has defined the Martin sound for generations.

Originally introduced in the early 20th century and refined through the 1930s, the 000-28 has remained a benchmark instrument for fingerstyle and acoustic players. Its balanced tonal profile and responsiveness have made it a favourite among artists such as Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, and David Crosby, further cementing its place in modern music history.

This example presents in great condition for an instrument approaching its 50th year. The spruce top shows attractive natural checking, adding to its vintage character, while the neck retains a clean, comfortable feel with only minor cosmetic marking near the nut. The Grover tuners function as they should, and the frets show moderate wear but retain good life. The action is set low, contributing to an easy, relaxed playing experience. The only notable modification is a professionally installed replacement nut by respected luthier Jeff Mallia.

Tonally, this 000-28 delivers a beautifully balanced and resonant voice, with rich sustain, clear articulation, and the warmth that only well-aged tonewoods can provide. It responds dynamically to a light touch, encouraging extended playing and expressive phrasing.
