Here’s a very nice ’63 Tele which has a story all its own.
It was bought from a USA dealer as a rebuild project by a Sydney guitar tech with lots of experience in rescuing otherwise troubled instruments and crafting them into something special. This Tele is a fine example of his good work.
Here’s what we know –
Body – original Fender USA body refinished in Olympic White by Mark Jennings of MJT USA. Mark provided the nitro finish and light relic treatment you can see from the pics. MJT is a very well regarded American custom parts manufacturer specializing in aged 100% thin nitro lacquer finishes. MJT link – http://mjtagedfinishes.com.
Two of the rear string ferrules are mis-matched. There is a humbucker route under the guard. It was obviously done professionally, probably to house a Seth Lover Fender humbucker back in the day. Repro pickguard.
Neck - genuine Fender Telecaster neck dated 3 November 1963. Fabulous dark Brazilian rosewood fingerboard and clay dot markers. The back of the neck has no lacquer – possibly lightly sanded or worn smooth from years of playing – feels great. Pro refret & replacement bone nut. Medium jumbo frets show no wear.
Pickups – Duncan Antiquity Vintage Tele single coils. We are mightily impressed by the authentic vintage tone of these pickups.
Control plate – we believe the plate, knobs and 3-way switch are original. The volume pot code is 3046617 = Stackpole April 1966. Tone pot is a later, undated unit.
We believe the guitar features its original tuners, strap buttons and three saddle steel bridge with FENDER Pat Pend stamped in the centre.
Serial # is L16xxx
Weight is 8.0 lbs
This is an excellent instrument, rebuilt with care and attention to detail by an experienced, professional guitar technician.
Bottom line is that it’s a 63 Tele refin has been augmented with the highest-level components in order to create a playing experience to rival that of a true 60s vintage instrument. It is actually a fabulous guitar – feels & sounds fantastic and built to play.
Comes with a Canadian made Fender case in good condition and a correct vintage 1963 white pickguard.
