This is a lovely Gibson LG-3 in excellent condition, we think from 1962. The LG-3 features a slope shoulder body design with a 14 1/4" lower bout width and X braced construction.

Short of purchasing a J-45 and heading into upscale dreadnought territory, the LG-3 was the highest grade Gibson money could buy in '62, and the solid spruce top, mahogany back and sides and one-piece mahogany neck add up to a guitar that is very resonant, soulful, and easy to play.

    Features –

    Solid spruce top

    Mahogany back

    Mahogany sides

Round soundhole with single ring rosette

    Three-ply top body binding

    Single-ply back binding

    Mahogany neck

14/20-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlays

Blackface headstock overlay with decal logo

Three-per-side nickel tuners with plastic buttons

    Rosewood bridge with white pins

    Long tortoise pickguard

    14.25” body width

    4.5” body depth

    24.75“ scale

    Weight 3.96 lbs

A modestly-sized cannon with incredible projection and muscle, this LG-3 delivers both a clear percussive cut with exquisite definition and also a sweet midrange character. The bass register is full and defined, and the trebles are clear and punchy. Weighing just under 4lbs, this Gibson is a light and lively sounding guitar.

The one-piece mahogany neck has a particularly slender C shape at the nut, with more roundness and chunk as you travel up the fretboard, measuring .790" deep at the 1st fret and .930" at the 9th.

The dark, tight-grained Brazilian rosewood fretboard sports pearl dot inlays, and the original medium jumbo frets are in great shape.

The original nut is present and measures 1 9/16" in width. On the headstock, the silkscreen "Gibson" logo is very clean, and the original Kluson Deluxe double line tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well.

The action is low and comfortable all the way up the neck, and the saddle has room for future adjustment if desired. Visible through the soundhole, the LG-3 factory stamp is present on the back-centre seam.

This LG-3 retains its original natural nitro lacquer gloss finish, accented by the stock red tortoise pickguard. Cosmetic wear includes some quite beautiful natural lacquer checking on the top, back and sides, and light pick wear on the guard. Apart from a couple of tiny chip marks there are no dings, dents or scratches of any consequence.

This LG-3 has been nicely set up and plays comfortably in all areas of the neck. The solid spruce and mahogany combination is the tonal cornerstone of the LG-3, with nice top end clarity, resonance and even tonal projection. It just might be the perfect recording guitar.

Comes in its original hard shell case in good condition.
