Vintage Gibson J-50 - USA 1956

Here is a 1956 Gibson J-50, a beautifully preserved example of Gibson’s iconic slope-shouldered dreadnought lineage, sharing its core design DNA with the legendary J-45 but finished in a natural top rather than sunburst. Revered for its balanced, focused voice, it remains one of the most sought-after vintage Gibson acoustics.

This example features a solid spruce top paired with mahogany back and sides, producing a warm, even tonal response with strong midrange presence, clear trebles, and a controlled, articulate bass. The slope-shoulder dreadnought body delivers excellent projection while retaining a responsive, intimate feel.

This example features classic 1950s Gibson construction details including a 16-inch body width, pearl dot fingerboard inlays, and the original gold silkscreen Gibson logo. It retains its vintage neck profile with substantial feel, offering a comfortable and familiar playing experience across all positions.

Playability is excellent, with a responsive, well-set neck and no dead spots, making it highly engaging under the fingers. The guitar benefits from a professional refret with stainless steel frets, ensuring smooth modern playability while maintaining its vintage character.

Condition is stunning for its age, showing only light lacquer checking, minor pickwear, and a few small cosmetic marks consistent with careful long-term use. There is a small repaired area near the soundhole and light lacquer chipping on the neck between the 2nd and 3rd frets, but nothing that affects structure or performance.
