Vintage Gibson ES-125T - USA 1968
Pickup currently unavailable
Gibson’s ES-125 line was built as an affordable, no-fuss hollowbody electric, and the ES-125T was the slimmer, lighter thinline version of it. It keeps the formula that made the series popular, with a single P-90 pickup, a volume and a tone control, and a trapeze tailpiece on a laminated archtop body. It’s a simple, honest vintage Gibson with a lot of tone for the money.
This one is from 1968, with serial number 894340. It’s finished in a classic sunburst that has mellowed to amber through the middle of the top, over a dark rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays. The black-faced headstock carries the gold Gibson logo, and a large tortoise pickguard sits under the black P-90. The f-holes, cream body binding and cream tuner buttons are all in place, and the back and neck have the warm brown mahogany look you’d expect at this age.
A tune-o-matic bridge has replaced the original floating bridge, and it’s the main change from factory spec. The swap gives per-string intonation adjustment and holds its position firmly, which many players prefer on a guitar they intend to gig. Everything else visible, including the pickup, pickguard, controls and tailpiece, looks consistent with the period.
It’s an honest vintage player that shows its age in the finish and hardware. It comes with its original hardshell case, which has aged along with the guitar.
Simple by design, with one P-90, two knobs and a trapeze, the ES-125T is still one of the most approachable ways into a vintage Gibson hollowbody.
