Back in 1962, Gibson introduced the Gibson Dove, and it quickly became an iconic acoustic guitar in the world of music. This guitar was part of Gibson's attempt to offer something unique and visually striking to players who wanted an instrument that stood out from the crowd.
The design of the Gibson Dove was inspired by nature, with intricate and beautiful dove engravings adorning the pickguard and bridge. These delicate details added a touch of elegance and charm to the guitar, making it a real eye-catcher.
The body of the Dove was typically made of high-quality maple with a spruce top, which contributed to its bright and balanced tone. The guitar had a square-shoulder dreadnought shape, giving it a full sound that projected well in various musical settings.
The neck was often made of maple, providing players with a comfortable and smooth playing experience.
As for the sound, the Gibson Dove delivered a warm, rich tone with excellent projection and clarity, making it a popular choice among both singer-songwriters and folk musicians during that time.
Throughout the years, the Gibson Dove continued to be cherished by guitarists for its unique aesthetics and fantastic sound. Artists like Elvis Presley and John Lennon were known to have played Gibson Doves, further solidifying its status as a sought-after instrument.
This particular Dove is a beautiful specimen - it has been well played as displayed by the heavy strumming abrasions. And we can certainly see why, because it sounds incredible, rich, warm, balanced and lively. It really is one of the better sounding acoustics we have had the pleasure of playing here at Premier Guitars.
The original two-tone sunburst finish shows lovely checking, the flame maple back, sides are in great shape and the medium 'C' neck is smooth and clean allowing for comfortable playing for days. The guitar has had a refret at some stage in its life so the frets are in good condition and the saddle has been replaced at some point. The Dove is also equipped with an aftermarket pickup that sounds great.
This Gibson Dove is an absolute ripper - looks the part and sounds unreal. One of Gibson's top-of-the-line acoustics from a special era, that has been played in beautifully.
