The Fender Musicmaster II was a short-lived transitional model following the CBS takeover that featured the same design as the original Musicmaster introduced in 1956 with a 24.0" scale length.
The Musicmaster has a lightweight poplar body that weighs in at just 7.03lbs, and the acoustic tone is clear and crisp, translating well through the single coil pickups. Essentially, Strat pickups of the era with flat pole pieces hidden beneath the cover, the sweet, singing tone of this guitar is most alluring, with lots of warmth and complexity.
The maple neck has a full round C profile shape with a full feel at the nut and subtle flame maple figuring along the entire profile and back of the headstock. The frets are near perfect with their full factory height and well rounded crowns.
The rosewood fretboard sports pearl dot inlays and the neck itself is very straight with a responsive truss rod with adjustment at the neck heel. The headstock face retains its perfect "Fender" and "Musicmaster II" logo, and the original tuners have been replaced with a set of spec reissue Kluson deluxes.
The nut measures 1 5/8".
The simple electronics work as they should, the single grey bobbin bridge pickup is a non-original Seymour Duncan Antiquity and the neck pickup (added after market) has been rewound - both wired to Master Volume and Tone knobs. There are two switches for different pickup configurations for tonal variation. The original chrome hardware and plastic parts are all intact and remarkably clean, showing only light patina on the bridge saddles.
The original Dakota Red nitro lacquer finish is very rich, with prominent vertical lacquer checking on the body and a few nicks and finish chips on the back and around the edges of the slab body.
It is a light and lively guitar with a comfortable low action and accurate intonation. Super comfortable to play.
This 1966 Fender Musicmaster II is in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. This simple but sweet vintage Fender is over 50 years old, with another 50 years of musical stories to tell.
Comes in its original Fender hard case in fair condition.
