Vintage Fender Coronado II - USA 1967
Pickup currently unavailable
Just in the door at Premier Guitars, this 1967 Fender Coronado II is a stunning example of Fender’s bold foray into the world of fully hollow electric guitars. Designed by Roger Rossmeisl, known for his work with Rickenbacker, the Coronado was Fender’s response to the growing popularity of Gibson and Gretsch hollow bodies in the 1960s. Unlike Fender’s solid-body models, the Coronado II delivers a rich, airy resonance that excels in both clean and driven tones, making it a unique and highly sought-after instrument.
Adding to its history, this Coronado II was previously owned by Mike Knudson of 'Minus the Bear' and has been used in session work for albums by Snow Patrol, Weezer, and The Void. The guitar comes with a signed certificate from Mike, adding further proof of its provenance.
The guitar features a fully hollow laminated maple body with a bound top and back, finished in Cherry Red that enhances its striking vintage appeal. The bolt-on maple neck with a bound rosewood fretboard ensures smooth playability, while the pearl block inlays and matching headstock give it a bold, classic look. The original DeArmond pickups provide bright, articulate tones with a natural acoustic-like resonance, making this an inspiring instrument for everything from jangly cleans to rich overdrive.
This 1967 Fender Coronado II has been exceptionally well cared for and remains in excellent condition for its age. The sublime Cherry Red adds a striking visual touch while preserving the guitar’s vintage appeal. There are some a few light scratches evident and the finish shows light checking in certain light. It has been fully inspected and set up by our team at Premier Guitars, ensuring optimal playability. With its unique history, stunning aesthetic, and vibrant tonal character, this is a rare find for both collectors and players. Includes original hard case.
