James Cargill Custom - Australia 2015
Pickup currently unavailable
Founded in 1956 by Merv Cargill after completing an apprenticeship in violin manufacturing, Cargill Custom Guitars has become synonymous with precision and passion in the guitar industry. Merv's meticulous craftsmanship and dedication to achieving optimal tonality and finish quickly elevated the Cargill name, attracting notable musicians from his garage workshop in Melbourne's Seaford suburb.
Here is a 2015 James Cargill Custom acoustic guitar, built in Melbourne by one of Australia’s respected boutique luthiers whose family workshop tradition dates back to 1956. Continuing the legacy of Cargill Custom Guitars, this instrument reflects decades of refined handcrafting and a deep focus on tonal quality and detail.
This example features a Madagascan rosewood body paired with an Italian spruce top, producing a rich, articulate voice with warm midrange, clear trebles, and excellent sustain. The tonal balance is enhanced by the natural resonance of these premium tonewoods, offering both power and sensitivity.
This example features a Fijian mahogany neck with a fiddleback Blackwood headstock veneer, along with ebony fingerboard and bridge construction for smooth playability and tonal clarity. The body is finished with detailed binding work including green pinstripe and ebony accents, complemented by 2mm mother-of-pearl dot inlays.
Playability is excellent, with a comfortable neck feel and responsive action that immediately reflects its boutique build quality. The guitar feels open and balanced under the hands, delivering strong dynamic response suitable for both fingerstyle and strumming applications.
Condition is excellent, with the instrument presenting very cleanly overall. There are a few removable aftermarket personalisations including initials on the pickguard, a name at the 12th fret, and small decals on the top and headstock, all of which can be easily removed if desired.
