This is a classic Gretsch White Falcon Thinline hollow body electric guitar, made in Brooklyn, NY in 1968.
It is a very nice example of a late-60’s mono White Falcon, the “Crème de la Gretsch” and one of the flashiest guitars ever built. With the exception of the new-for-’67 recessed-edge knobs, this guitar still sports all pre-Baldwin features, including patent-number Filtertron pickups, telescoping-arm Gretsch vibrato, and kidney button Grover Imperial tuners.
While never made in large quantities, these very expensive buxom hollowbodies were falling out of favour by 1968 and therefore made in diminishing numbers, so they are now quite rare guitars.
Resplendent in gleaming white and decorated with gold sparkle, this 6-string burlesque queen is still hard to beat for over-the-top flash.
Overall length is 44 1/4 in. (112.4 cm.), 17 in. (43.2 cm.) wide at lower bout, and 1 7/8 in. (4.8 cm.) in depth, measured at side of rim. Scale length is 25 1/2 in. (648 mm.).
This one has weathered the past fifty years in fine style. No breaks, repairs or structural issues. Some wear on the back of the neck (see pics), a pickguard crack, and some binding rot on the neck heel are about the only blemishes on this one.
It features a three-piece maple/ebony/maple neck with very comfortable medium profile which is also bound in gold sparkle. The ebony fretboard has 21 medium frets (plus zero fret) in good condition. Features Gretsch’s unique neo-classic inlaid pearl thumbprint (half-moon) position markers up to the twelfth fret with inlaid pearl dot markers beyond that.
Soft curve headstock with horizontal Gretsch “T-roof” logo. Two killer Filtertron pickups with gold plated mounting rings. There are two “muffler” switches that control two separate muting units – rarely used by the look of things.
Gretsch “arrow thru G” knobs with ribbed sides. Gretsch/Bigsby tailpiece with space control bridge on adjustable ebony base. The circular white padded cushion with black and gold trim is secured to back of guitar by eight fasteners.
Overall, this big white bird is in very good, original condition. A classic vintage Gretsch that structurally intact, plays well, sounds great and will definitely draw the spotlight.
Comes in its original Gretsch hard case in good condition.
