The original Gibson SJ-150 was first introduced in 1954 as a variant of the SJ-200 model, which is one of Gibson's most iconic and popular acoustic guitars. The SJ-150 featured similar aesthetics and tonal characteristics to the SJ-200, but with some slight variations. It had a jumbo-sized body with a solid spruce top and maple back and sides, providing a balanced tonal response with strong bass and clear treble.
In the mid-1960s, Gibson made some changes to the SJ-150 model. The most notable modification was the adoption of a natural finish instead of the sunburst finish found on earlier models. This change gave the SJ-150 a distinct appearance and set it apart from other Gibson acoustic guitars of the time.
Fast forward to 1995 when Gibson reintroduced the SJ-150 model. The modern SJ-150 retains many of the original design elements, including the jumbo body shape, solid spruce top, and maple back and sides. However, Gibson made some updates to enhance the playability and performance of the guitar. These updates included a slightly shallower body depth and an advanced pickup system for amplified performances.
This SJ-150 presents in excellent condition with barely a scratch on it. The body, neck and headstock are unblemished so it is visually a delight to look at. The frets have only very slight wear, so a lifetime in front of them. The guitar has a rich and resonant voice as you would expect from any quality Gibson jumbo, acres of sustain and plenty of volume and punch - you can joyfully strum away for hours.
A classic Gibson jumbo that ticks all of the boxes.
