Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition ‘63 Telecaster Heavy Relic Super Faded Aged Olympic White - USA 2018
Pickup currently unavailable
The ‘63 Telecaster is one of the high points of Fender’s early-60s design. It has a lightweight ash body, a slim oval C neck, a round-laminate rosewood fingerboard and a simple two-pickup circuit that has barely changed since. The Custom Shop’s Heavy Relic version puts all of that into a guitar that already looks like it has been gigged for decades.
This one was built in 2018 as part of the Custom Shop’s NAMM Limited Edition run. It has a two-piece sorted ash body finished in Super Faded Aged Olympic White nitrocellulose flash coat lacquer. The finish is worn back to bare ash, with checking and dings across the face and a heavy worn patch on the back, all applied at the factory. The neck is quartersawn maple in a ’60s oval C shape, with a medium-tint flash coat finish and “dirty aging” on the back of the neck to match the body. The fingerboard is AAA rosewood with a 9.5" to 12" compound radius, 21 Sanko 6105 frets, white Micarta dots and a bone nut.
The electronics are a hand-wound Twisted Tele neck pickup and a hand-wound Broadcaster bridge pickup, wired with the Custom Shop’s Fat ’50s circuit. The vintage-style three-saddle bridge, knurled chrome knobs, vintage tuners with the Fender logo and the four-bolt neck plate are all relic’d chrome and nickel. A mint green three-ply pickguard completes it. The limited edition decal is on the headstock.
It comes in the black Fender Custom Shop hardshell case with the red plush interior, with the Certificate of Authenticity, the original Shop Floor Traveler and case candy. The traveler is the build sheet that lists every part this guitar left the factory with.
