Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition Big Head Stratocaster Super Heavy Relic Aged Fiesta Red - USA 2019
Pickup currently unavailable
Fender’s large-headstock Stratocasters came out of 1965 and stayed in production until the early 1970s. Today they’re a favourite with players chasing that late-60s look and feel, and the Hendrix association has never hurt. This is the Custom Shop’s take on that era: the 2019 NAMM Limited Edition Big Head Stratocaster in Super Heavy Relic, in Aged Fiesta Red.
It’s built on a two-piece alder ‘66 Strat body finished in nitrocellulose lacquer, with the Fiesta Red worn back through to bare wood in all the places a player’s guitar would be. The neck is AA flame quartersawn maple in a ‘63 C shape, with a medium-tint nitro finish and a heavy relic neck back, and carries the large Big Head headstock with the LTD decal. The fingerboard is AAA rosewood with a 9.5" radius, 21 6100 jumbo frets, 7mm mother-of-pearl dots and a bone nut. The four-bolt neck plate is engraved Limited Edition.
Electronics are three hand-wound Fat ’60s single coils, with a reverse-wound, reverse-polarity middle pickup for hum cancelling in positions 2 and 4. They sit under a gold anodised 11-hole pickguard with vintage white relic knobs and switch tip. The hardware is relic’d chrome and nickel throughout, with an American Vintage-style synchronised tremolo, a vintage-style upgraded ’60s trem arm, vintage-style tuners with the Fender logo, a nylon spaghetti string tree and a relic’d gold anodised back plate.
The wear is factory applied, so every mark on it was put there by the Custom Shop. It comes in the original black Fender Custom Shop hardshell case with its red plush interior, together with the Certificate of Authenticity, the original Shop Floor Traveler and case candy. The traveler is the build sheet that lists every component this guitar left the factory with.
If you’re after the big headstock look in a limited Custom Shop piece that’s already been played in, get in touch and we’ll set it up for you.
