Fender Masterbuilt Carlos Lopez '60 Stratocaster Relic - USA 2020

Completed in 2020, this Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt 1960 Stratocaster Relic was built by Carlos Lopez and carries serial number R1003904. Finished in a beautifully aged Three Tone Sunburst relic lacquer, it captures the look and feel of a well-played early-'60s Stratocaster while showcasing the exceptional attention to detail that defines a Masterbuilt instrument.

One of the standout features of this guitar is its Esquire "C" neck profile. It has a reassuringly full feel in the hand without ever becoming oversized, sitting comfortably between the slimmer early-'60s profiles and the chunkier Blackguard-era necks. Combined with the 10" fingerboard radius and medium jumbo frets, it offers an incredibly comfortable playing experience whilst still retaining an unmistakably vintage feel.

The hand-wound Tomatillo single coils deliver everything you'd expect from a great Stratocaster: articulate cleans, bell-like highs, woody midrange, and plenty of dynamic response. Paired with modern Strat wiring and a five-way selector, there's an impressive range of tones on tap, whether you're chasing glassy cleans, blues, or classic rock.

Since leaving the Fender Custom Shop, Carlos Lopez has established his own boutique brand, Castedosa Guitars, where he now builds instruments under his own name. As a result, Fender Masterbuilt guitars bearing his signature are no longer being produced, making them a finite chapter in his career and an increasingly desirable proposition for both players and collectors.
