Aloha
Aloha Tabu Akai Ukulele - Hawaii 1920/30s
Pickup currently unavailable
Akai is listed in the 1925 Honolulu Business directory as a ukulele maker with the Aloha Ukulele Manufacturing Co., although his brand appears in some of Aloha’s earliest ukes dating from the late teens. Akai has a reputation of making top quality ukuleles that are good players. There is also the Tabu brand inside confirming the ukulele was made in Hawaii. The Tabu brand was used by several makers in Honolulu between April, 1916, and about 1935, because many mainland manufacturers were falsely claiming their ukuleles were made in Hawaii.
This Uke is in excellent condition for its age. There is only one, extremely fine, hairline crack in the back, but other than this it is extremely clean. The Uke plays wonderfully - it is loud and articulate and really is a joy to play! This Aloha Uke is in original condition other than replaced tuners that hold tune very well.
Comes with its original case and a newer hardshell case, also included is 'EZ method for Ukulele' magazine from 1924.
