Vintage Burns Split Sound - UK 1964

Burns guitars have been favoured by a diverse array of artists, including Hank Marvin, Elvis Presley, The Shadows, The Hollies, The Searchers, and The Troggs.

The “Jazz/Split Sound” (JSS) model was Burns' midline instrument, positioned as a professional-class guitar but less expensive than the high-end Black Bison and Hank Marvin models. Inspired by the Stratocaster, the JSS features three "Split Sound" Tri-sonic pickups and a rotary control offering four tone selections, including the distinctive "Wild Dog" out-of-phase setting and the patented "Split Sound" that enhances bass and treble registers.

The Burns "Series II" vibrato system, with its floating bridge cradle and adjustable saddles, is considered one of the best of its kind. The medium-scale neck is slim and comfortable, with a unique feel compared to a Fender.

This JSS was manufactured in London in 1964 and sports a red/black sunburst finish, a sycamore body, and a maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard. Known for its stylish design, the JSS is a classic 1960s guitar. All instruments from the Burns London period (1961-65) are known for their exceptional craftsmanship. The JSS stands out as a fine-playing guitar with a distinctive sound and loads of character, making it a popular and enduring model from this era.
