Kazuo Yairi is widely regarded as one of the best ever Japanese luthiers. His classical and steel string acoustic guitars have been treasured by players all around the world. Over the years Mr Yairi hired and trained many younger luthiers, who continued the high quality associated with his signature guitars.
Some early Yairi steel string guitars were certainly influenced by designs associated with CF Martin. This is a full size Yairi steel string dreadnought from 1983. It is a finely crafted instrument featuring high grade materials and superb workmanship.

This K. Yairi has been well looked after and it presents in fine condition. It has some very light scratches, small dents, and general wear associated with 40 years of playing but overall it presents as very clean.
The hand carved headstock is pristine and the tuners are very high quality units. It is structurally sound, the neck is straight, there is no lifting or “bellying” around the bridge, the tuning is accurate and the intonation is excellent.
This Yairi delivers strong volume and is super responsive. It offers a sweet and clear top end, solid bass, with plenty of overtones in the midrange. It is well balanced with superb note clarity and separation, and impressive sustain.
You could certainly go into a regular music store these days and buy a well made dreadnought guitar for around this price, but in no way could you compare that with the high grade materials, superb build quality, and attention to detail found on this guitar. Mr Yairi knew how to do it well, which is why his brand has endured for decades as one of the most revered Japanese guitar makers.
Comes in anon-original case in good condition.
