Zachary & Mercer Mastermind “Deluxe” Offset – Aust 2021

Handcrafted in Sydney by a local luthier, this Art-Deco inspired Offset guitar has had little to no expense or time spared on it’s construction, hardware or finish.

All design elements and finishes were done by the builder, apart from the body which was CNC’d for accuracy locally.

This guitar is a three piece mahogany body that pays homage to the original 62 JM shape. Paintwork is a Golden Amber Candy over Champagne (Silver & Gold) metallic flake with a subtle hand pinstriped Art-Deco design. All paintwork is protected with a high-gloss polished polyurethane clear.

Stylistically, this guitar features a single piece laser cut gold ripple pick-guard with no upper controls and matching headstock plate.

The neck is a USA sourced Fender approved/licenced 9.5” radius maple neck with white binding, a rosewood fingerboard, and matching painted headstock. The neck has been finished in hi-gloss polished polyurethane, and features a stainless steel ZeroGlide zero fret that leads to Sperzel USA Staggered locking tuners.

Hardware starts with a USA Bigsby B5 Mounted on Vibramate plate (for later conversion to standard trem if required) that flows over an American Pro JM bridge. Internals include vintage cloth wiring, Switchcraft and CTS components, treble bleed, knurled controls - all sourced new from the USA.

Pickups are Hand-wound Q-Pickups Hybrids - a JM Bobbin with 2 Bar Alnico 5 magnets like a P90/Steel poles like a Humbucker. It also includes an integrated latching kill-all switch in the upper control area.

Overall, we found that the choice of a Bigsby on this Offset has added to the guitar's stability to deliver a thicker tone. Being a Vibramate unit, it can be removed without any trace if a subsequent owner wished to replace it with a more tradition tremolo.

In summary, an impressive Offset from Zachary & Mercer that plays great, sounds fat, and features a most unique and classy finish.
