Vintage Gibson Bicentennial Thunderbird IV Bass - USA 1976

To celebrate the 200th anniversary of American independence in 1976 Gibson reissued the classic Thunderbird bass in its original early 60s reverse body shape.

Although this bass was modelled directly on the 1963 Thunderbird, with a through neck and reverse body shape, there were some changes to the original design. Most notably the new 3 point bridge, which appeared on most Gibson basses of the period.  

Known as the Bicentennial model, or the Thunderbird '76, it also sported a red, white and blue Thunderbird logo with a 76 insignia. Later models still had the red white and blue bird, but without the 76.

This 76 Bicentennial Thunderbird bass has been played, but well cared for. It had a Fender branded thumb rest above the front pickup, which is the only non-original part on this bass, currently in the case.

The neck is straight, the truss rod is fine, the frets are in great shape, and all parts work as they should. The only cosmetic blemish is a well repaired old screwhole on the top upper bout where someone had possibly relocated a strap button.

The bottom line - this bass sounds huge. A very viable option to the standard Fender bass look and sound, with considerable history & undeniable mojo.

Comes in original Gibson Thunderbird Bass case in excellent condition.
