Vintage Martin 000-28 - USA 1974
Pickup currently unavailable
Here is a Martin 000-28, one of the most enduring and respected acoustic models in Martin’s long history, with origins dating back to the late 19th century and refined into its modern rosewood/spruce configuration in the 1930s. Favoured by legendary fingerstyle and folk players, it remains a benchmark for balanced, articulate acoustic tone.
This example features a solid Sitka spruce top paired with solid rosewood back and sides, producing a richly balanced voice with clear trebles, warm mids, and a controlled, resonant low end. The smaller 000 body size enhances responsiveness and makes it especially suited to fingerstyle playing and studio work.
This example features a comfortable vintage-style “V” neck profile, ebony fingerboard and bridge, and quality Grover tuning machines that provide stable and reliable tuning performance. The instrument benefits from an expert refret, ensuring smooth playability across the entire neck.
Playability is excellent, with a low, comfortable action and a highly responsive feel that encourages extended playing sessions. The guitar delivers strong sustain and projection, with the tonal complexity and warmth expected from mature vintage tonewoods.
Condition reflects a well-played vintage instrument, showing cosmetic wear consistent with age, including checking on the spruce top and light marks on the neck. There is a cracked bridge area beneath the bridge pins and a lifting pickguard, both repairable and not affecting current playability. Despite this, the guitar functions well and remains highly enjoyable to play.
