Vintage Gibson J-50 - USA 1968
Pickup currently unavailable
Here is a Gibson J-50, a beautifully preserved example of Gibson’s iconic slope-shouldered jumbo acoustic, reintroduced in 1947 as the natural-finish counterpart to the legendary J-45. It presents in great player-grade condition overall, showing honest signs of long-term use and careful maintenance, and comes complete with its original Gibson hard-shell case.
This example features a solid spruce top paired with mahogany back and sides, delivering a balanced and focused acoustic voice with warm lows, clear mids, and articulate highs. The tone is distinctly Gibson-rich, even, and responsive, with strong projection and excellent dynamic control across both strumming and fingerstyle playing.
This example features a professionally crafted replacement bridge by respected luthier Luke Parry, paired with a replaced saddle, improving stability and performance while maintaining the guitar’s vintage character. It is also fitted with an L.R. Baggs Anthem pickup system, providing a natural and powerful amplified tone that has proven highly effective on both large stages and intimate performances.
This example features a history of professional use, having served as a working instrument for touring Australian musicians, with appearances on major stages across the US, Europe, and Asia, including the Beacon Theatre in New York.
The guitar shows typical vintage wear including finish checking, pick wear around the soundhole, light scratches and dings across the body, and minor cosmetic wear on the neck and headstock. A small, previously repaired back fissure has been professionally reinforced with internal bracing and is now stable with no movement.
Playability is excellent, with a comfortable neck profile that feels smooth across all positions and a responsive, even setup with no dead spots. The guitar delivers a lively, inspiring playing experience with strong resonance and an unmistakable vintage Gibson feel.
Condition is good for its age with cosmetic wear consistent with a long working life, but structurally sound and fully functional. A characterful and road-proven Gibson J-50 that delivers classic acoustic tone, proven stage reliability, and decades of musical history. Comes with the original Gibson hard case.
