Here is a Vicente Sanchís Model 34 Classical Guitar, built in 1979 in Massanassa, near Valencia, Spain, during a period when the Vicente Sanchís workshop was producing a wide range of handcrafted classical and flamenco instruments. Originating from a lineage dating back to 1915 and Ricardo Sanchís Nacher, the workshop maintained traditional Spanish luthiery methods even as production expanded to a larger team.
The Model 34 sat within the higher specification tier of Sanchís instruments at the time, and this example reflects that level of craftsmanship with a solid Canadian cedar top paired with Indian rosewood back and sides. The combination delivers a warm, responsive tonal character with clear separation, strong projection, and the characteristic quick bloom associated with cedar-topped classical guitars.
The mahogany neck features a full traditional D profile with notable shoulder, paired with a 650mm scale length and a 52mm nut width, offering a classic Spanish playing feel with excellent string spacing for fingerstyle articulation. The ebony fingerboard is solid and substantial, with 12 frets clear of the body, contributing to a strong, immediate response and clarity across the register.
Construction details remain firmly traditional throughout, including a rosewood bridge set cleanly against the top with no sign of belly rise, ornate soundhole rosette inlay, and mahogany/maple purfling around the cedar top. The original strip tuners remain intact, along with the original label visible through the soundhole.
Tonally, the guitar is rich, smooth, and open, with a broad, warm low end and a clear, singing midrange. The cedar top contributes a gentle compression and quick responsiveness, while the ebony fingerboard adds articulation and definition to individual notes. It projects with ease, making it well suited to classical repertoire as well as expressive fingerstyle playing.
Condition is excellent for its age, with only light surface marks in the finish and no structural concerns. The neck remains clean and stable with a comfortable, well-preserved feel. At just over 40 years old, it presents as a remarkably well-kept example of an important Spanish workshop instrument.
