M.G. Contreras Calle Mayor 80 - Spain 1973
Pickup currently unavailable
Here is a M.G. Contreras classical/flamenco guitar, built in Spain in the early 1970s and representing the highly respected Contreras family tradition of fine Spanish luthiery. It presents in excellent condition for its age, showing only light cosmetic wear with minimal marks to the body and frets, and comes complete with its original hard-shell case.
This example features a traditional Spanish construction with cypress back and sides paired with a spruce top, delivering an authentic flamenco voice with strong projection, dry response, and excellent separation between bass and treble registers. The tone is immediate and expressive, with the crisp attack and rhythmic clarity expected from a classic flamenco instrument.
This example features traditional wooden peg tuners, staying true to period-correct Spanish design, along with a clear protective pickguard that has helped preserve the top from aggressive strumming over its lifetime. The interior label is signed by M.G. Contreras, adding provenance and historical value to the instrument.
The guitar has had only two owners since new, beginning with its original purchase in Spain in 1973 before being brought to Australia, where it remained with its second owner from 1990 onward, contributing to its well-preserved condition and documented history.
Playability is excellent, with a responsive neck and comfortable action suited to traditional flamenco technique. The guitar feels lively under the hands, offering fast response and dynamic control across all registers.
Condition is excellent for its age with only light signs of use and everything structurally sound and fully functional. A beautifully preserved M.G. Contreras flamenco guitar that delivers authentic Spanish tone, strong provenance, and outstanding musical character. Comes with the original hard-shell case.
