In the 1980s Fender Japan did a superb job of manufacturing instruments, and their reputation has become known the world over. These models have maintained a high resale value and are widely regarded as some of the finest guitars & basses ever made.

Back in the early 80s, the very first Squier by Fender guitars and basses came out of Japan. Known for their excellent vintage quality look, feel, sound and construction, those early Squier instruments and their Fender branded counterparts are now highly sought-after collector's items revered by guitars enthusiasts as examples of ‘getting it right’ while aiming at value conscious players.

The story goes that the Fender guys came from the US to Japan packing some of the best examples of USA built 1950s & early 60s pre-CBS instruments and instructed their new Japanese partners to build to those exact specifications. It has become legend that many, if not most Japanese built Fenders in that era were of better quality than their US made counterparts. In fact, they were so good, the Fender people introduced the Squier brand to delineate the Japan built instruments from the US made ones.

This is a great playing bass from Fender Japan’s golden era. All original except for the pickups being changed to Seymour Duncan Vintage Antiquities, and the replacement of the original bridge to a Badass bridge. The rear of neck has been sanded back for player comfort and smooth playability. A small groove has been neatly cut to access the truss rod for easy adjustment.

There is some player wear with scratches, buckle rash and signs of use all adding to the character of a 35-year-old, player’s instrument. A great playing and looking bass, without the pricetag of its American counterparts.
