The Gibson LG-1 is one of the great flattops – practically made for the blues. The combination of smaller body and cross-bracing limit unwanted sustain, providing the tighter, more controlled tone many players like for the blues or jazz.
Almost 70 years ageing of the hand-selected spruce top and Honduran Mahogany back & sides has beautifully enriched the guitar’s tone. Strumming, fingerstyle or slide, the LG-1 has got the blues covered. Of course, you can play whatever music you want on your LG-1 – it’s a fully hand-built Gibson, so you know it’ll handle pretty much anything you want to throw at it.
This one has had a few changes in its lifetime including replacement bridge pins and the tuners have also been replaced, with the originals in the case. It has some battle scars but is structurally sound, and is in incredible shape for a nearly 70-year-old instrument. The top is clean and straight with few scratches and no visible cracks – minimal belly bulge, and the bridge intonates well. The guitars finish is remarkably clean, this thing is super clean!
The action is good, and the neck is smooth and comfortable in all positions. Frets look to be original and are showing very little wear. Truss rod works fine. There is some marking around the bottom of the rear of the headstock where the rubber from whatever it was hanging on reacted with the finish - all surface and nothing structural.
The full-scale neck features a comfortably small, rounded-C profile, with a nut width of 43.5mm. The dark Rosewood board is in great condition. Mother-of-pearl dot inlays, button tuners, tortoise-pattern pick guard and front & rear binding complete the package.
An amazing early Gibson that is in wonderful condition - a real beaut!
Comes in a quality non-original hard-shell case.
