De Gruchy

De Gruchy Dobro Square Neck - Aus 2015
Pickup currently unavailable
Built in 2015 by the late Gary De Gruchy, one of Australia’s most respected and soulful luthiers, this square-neck Dobro stands as a beautiful example of his craftsmanship and musical understanding. De Gruchy’s instruments are now highly sought after for their tone, build quality, and unique voice - each a rare piece of Australian luthiery history since his passing in 2016.
Modelled after the Jerry Douglas-style Dobros, this resonator features an Adirondack spruce top paired with what Gary believed to be rosewood back and sides, offering excellent projection and warmth with a clear, balanced midrange. The combination of an ebony bridge and Quarterman cone imported from the USA delivers remarkable clarity, sustain, and responsiveness - a setup built for expressive slide work and dynamic playing.
This example has its share of small bumps and bruises from honest use, but remains fully player-ready with no structural issues and a strong, open tone. A felt protection strip has been fitted along the bass side of the body to prevent slide wear; it can be easily removed if desired.
It comes complete with its original alligator case, adding a touch of vintage charm and collectability to an already special instrument. A rare and resonant piece of Australian craftsmanship - built for players who appreciate tone, touch, and history.
