Wizz Duane Allman Hot Lanta Humbucker Set - Croatia

Duane Allman remains one of the most revered guitarists in American music history, a slide guitar pioneer and founding member of the Allman Brothers Band whose playing Eric Clapton himself once called the best he had ever heard. In the summer of 1971, only months before his death that October, Duane acquired a late 1950s Gibson Les Paul Standard from dealer Kurt Linhof, a guitar that quickly earned the nickname "Hot 'Lanta" after the band's home city of Atlanta. It became the guitar most closely associated with Duane's final months, and its pickups have since become the stuff of legend among players chasing that tone, measuring an unusually hot 8.3k ohms in the neck and 8.7k ohms in the bridge, hotter than the vast majority of period correct PAFs and a huge part of what gave Duane's playing that singing, aggressive edge.

Wizz Pickups, hand building out of Croatia in small, expert crafted batches, created their Darkburst Hot 'Lanta set as a dedicated tribute to exactly those pickups, matching the same 8.3k neck and 8.7k bridge DC resistance figures measured from Duane's own guitar rather than the more balanced specification of a typical PAF pair. The set uses A5 Alnico magnets specifically chosen to recreate the brightness and clarity associated with the original Hot 'Lanta pickups, wound to deliver the same built in nastiness, gain and chiming top end that made Duane's tone so instantly recognisable, along with genuine PAF era articulation, sustain and bloom. This example is finished in the classic zebra style with black and cream bobbins visible beneath cream mounting rings, and carries the correct threaded nickel silver baseplates with the period style "Applied For" decal on the underside.

Condition is near new, supplied complete in Wizz's own branded foam lined presentation box, along with the braided two strand hookup wiring left uninstalled and ready to be fitted. This is a genuinely special tribute set for anyone chasing one of the most iconic and influential guitar tones in rock history.
