SOLD - Vintage National Duolian Resonator - USA 1936

Here is a National Duolian resonator guitar, a classic metal-bodied instrument from the golden era of resonator design that helped define the sound of early blues music. Produced between 1931 and 1940, the Duolian is widely regarded for its raw, cutting tone and compact yet powerful voice.

This example features a steel body finished in the distinctive frosted Duco-style coating, paired with a single resonator cone and dual f-hole design, producing a bright, punchy, and highly focused tone with excellent projection. The sound is bold and immediate, with strong clarity that cuts through any mix and a natural sustain that makes it ideal for blues and slide playing.

This example features a 14-fret neck configuration (introduced from 1934 onwards) with a mahogany neck and ebonized maple fingerboard, delivering a comfortable playing feel with improved upper fret access. The slotted headstock and vintage-style tuning machines maintain the traditional aesthetic and functionality of the period.

Playability is enhanced by a professionally converted round neck (originally a square neck), completed with excellent craftsmanship in Japan, along with a refret using stainless steel frets for improved durability and smooth performance across the board.

Condition is very good for an instrument of this age, presenting as a well-preserved vintage example with no structural concerns. The refinished neck work is expertly done and integrates seamlessly into the instrument’s overall character.
