Vintage Gibson GA-20T Ranger 1 x 12" Combo - USA 1960

The Gibson GA-20T Ranger comes from the golden age of Gibson's Kalamazoo amplifier production, when the company's tweed-covered combos were built with the same care as their guitars and shared shop floors with Les Pauls and ES-335s. Sitting in the middle of Gibson's late-'50s line, the GA-20T paired a 6V6 push-pull power section with a 12" Jensen speaker and onboard tremolo, delivering around 14 to 16 watts of warm, touch-sensitive tube tone. These amps have long lived in the shadow of their Fender tweed contemporaries, which makes them one of the great sleepers of the vintage amp world: a genuine 1960 tweed combo with a Jensen speaker and real vintage character, at a fraction of the price of the equivalent Deluxe.
This 1960 example, serial number 38428, wears its original yellow tweed covering with the deep amber patina that only sixty-plus years can produce. The oxblood grille cloth is in fine shape and set off by the raised script "Gibson" logo badge, and the original leather-look handle with its clear-wrapped "Gibson" tweed insert survives intact, an item so often missing or replaced on these. The rear panel reveals the tube complement and the Jensen "Special Design" loudspeaker label, while the chrome control panel carries the "Ranger" model name alongside Gibson's Kalamazoo, Michigan markings. Controls are wonderfully simple: Voicing (a tilt-style bass/treble control), independent volumes for the tremolo and mic/instrument channels, four inputs, and a phones output. A pair of wooden rails has been fitted to the top of the cabinet flanking the handle, a tidy practical addition from a previous owner. The period metal footswitch for the tremolo is included. The amp is in good working condition, and the tremolo delivers that deep, pulsing throb these Gibson circuits are famous for.
Condition-wise, the amp presents honestly for its age. The tweed shows staining, scuffing, edge wear, and general darkening throughout, exactly the lived-in look you want from a working 1960 tweed amp rather than a shelf queen. The cabinet is solid, the grille cloth is clean and free of tears, and the control panel, while showing surface oxidation, remains fully legible. Please note this amplifier is wired for 110V US voltage and requires a step-down transformer for use in Australia.
