Rickenbacker 230 Hamburg - USA 1999
Pickup currently unavailable
Here’s a rare and character-filled example of one of Rickenbacker’s most unique solid-body designs. The 230 Hamburg was part of Rickenbacker’s 200 Series, built from 1993 to 2000 as a modern, stripped-back alternative to their classic hollow and semi-hollow models. With clean lines, a contoured body, and dual Rickenbacker humbuckers, the 230 Hamburg offered players something fresh while still delivering that unmistakable Ric personality.
This 1999 model in black is all original and clearly lived a working life — now proudly wearing the honest playwear of a true player’s guitar. Scratches, bumps, and fading are visible throughout, consistent with a gigged instrument of its age. The finish on the headstock and fingerboard binding has gently yellowed and worn in places, giving it a killer vintage patina. Structurally it’s rock solid, with the original Schaller tuners, electronics, and hardware all present and functioning perfectly.
Tonally, the dual Rickenbacker humbuckers (HB1s) deliver a focused, articulate sound — a bit brighter and leaner than typical PAF-style pickups, but with plenty of punch. The 230 is known for its excellent note separation and clarity, making it ideal for rhythm and jangly leads with a little more meat than a traditional single-coil. The low action, intact frets, and 4-bolt neck construction make this a very playable and roadworthy instrument.
Rarely seen on the market, especially in Australia, this is a fantastic opportunity to pick up a distinctive, collectible, and inspiring Rickenbacker that’s ready to keep rocking.
