Lazy J J-20 w Reverb and Tremolo - UK 2022

Lazy J Amplification was born out of a very personal problem. Founder Jesse Hoff had built and heavily modified a vintage Fender tweed Deluxe that he loved, but when he relocated to England he was unable to bring it with him. Rather than try to replace it, he set about building a new amplifier from scratch using that modified Deluxe as his inspiration, refining the design over more than two decades of hands on development. What started as a one off soon became the Lazy J Project, built to answer requests from other players who wanted the same amp. Every Lazy J amplifier is still hand wired point to point in England, using genuine tweed Deluxe (5E3) circuit topology as its foundation, built with premium components like Heyboer transformers, CTS potentiometers and Sprague filter caps, and finished in a hand built, finger jointed pine cabinet under hand aged, lacquered tweed. The result is an amp that captures the crisp, lively voice of the late 1950s tweed era while offering the reliability and flexibility a modern player actually wants. This example is a Lazy J J-20 fitted with the optional reverb and tremolo module, UK built in 2022. The chassis runs a point to point wired circuit with a GZ34 rectifier and a pair of 6L6 power tubes feeding a 12" Celestion Alnico Blue speaker, with 12AX7 preamp tubes handling gain duties as well as driving the tube based reverb and tremolo circuits. Up front there are Normal and Bright input channels with independent volume controls and a single shared tone control, while the rear panel houses dedicated reverb and tremolo controls along with the two button footswitch for on the fly control of both effects live. The cabinet is finished in classic gold lacquered tweed with a brown grille cloth, a red "Lazy J" badge on the front baffle, and a leather carry handle up top, all built to the same exacting standard as the vintage amps that inspired the company in the first place.

Condition is excellent, presenting as a clean, well kept example with tidy tweed covering, a clean chassis and no signs of heavy use. It comes complete with its original two button reverb and tremolo footswitch. This is a genuinely great sounding hand wired boutique amp, offering all the character of a vintage tweed Deluxe with the added versatility of onboard reverb and tremolo that the originals never had, and it is exactly the calibre of amp we love having in store as an official Lazy J dealer.
