Komet Vimana Head & Ambikab Cabinet Black Tolex - USA c.2020

This is a serious pairing from Komet, the Louisiana-based boutique builder behind some of the most talked-about hand-wired amps in the game. It’s the Vimana head with a matching AmbiKab stereo cabinet, in excellent condition, and it comes with padded covers for both pieces.

The Vimana is a 54-watt hand-wired head built around a pair of KT88 power tubes in Class A push-pull, with three 12AX7s in the preamp. There’s no global negative feedback, so it feels alive under the fingers and reacts to every change in picking dynamics. The sound is deep and clear at the bottom, with a rich, layered midrange and detailed, sparkling highs. Volume, Treble, Middle and Bass controls are joined by a Hi Cut and a three-position Bright switch. The Tone Stack Bypass is a standout feature: wind it in and the amp gets more gain, more mids and more harmonic richness, for a range that goes from glassy cleans to a thick, singing crunch.

The AmbiKab is where it gets interesting. It’s a stereo cabinet built for the wet/dry/wet approach, with a pair of Celestion G10s and a pair of Celestion Alnico Cream 90s. Run it with a delay or reverb and the effects spread around you instead of sitting in front of you, while your dry tone stays focused and clear. It adds a sense of space and depth you don’t get from a standard cab, whether you’re on a big stage or in a rehearsal room.

Both pieces wear black tolex with a light sage grille cloth and the silver Komet plate, which looks sharp and understated. The head is compact for its power and easy to move, and the cab is built to match. It’s an amp for players who care about feel, tone and the room they play in.
