Ibanez USA Custom USRG20 - USA 1995

Ibanez has its own strange and wonderful chapter of American made history, and this guitar is it. In the mid 1990s, with Ibanez's own California custom shop winding down as the shred era faded, Hoshino USA struck an unlikely deal with a small Pennsylvania builder named Dave Bunker. From 1994 through late 1996, Bunker's company PBC Guitar Technology built the USRG10, 20 and 30 exclusively for Ibanez, completely US made apart from hardware and electronics. Production ran for less than three years before it ended for good, making genuine surviving examples like this one a rare find today.

This 1995 USRG20 is finished in a striking cherry burgundy over a beautifully figured maple top, one of the more eye catching finishes to come out of the PBC shop. The neck carries Bunker's patented Tension Free design, a genuine engineering departure from the traditional truss rod. Rather than compressing the neck end to end, a steel bar system pinned at the 17th fret and adjusted at the 22nd controls relief, giving the neck a distinct feel and stability underhand that most players have never encountered.

Electronics are all original USRG20 spec, DiMarzio Tone Zone at the bridge and PAF Pro at the neck, wired through a 5 way selector for a genuinely versatile set of tones. The Lo-Pro Edge locking tremolo and Cosmo black hardware throughout complete the early 90s Ibanez USA aesthetic.

In the hands this is everything a 90s American made shred guitar should be. It plays fast and precise, the figured top adds real visual presence, and the Tension Free neck gives it a character all its own compared to a standard Ibanez Wizard neck. This is a genuine piece of Ibanez history from a chapter of the brand's story that most players have never even seen in person, let alone played.
