SOLD - Gilet Travel SS Guitar - Aust 2013

Here is a Gerard Gilet travel-style acoustic guitar, hand-built in Sydney, Australia by one of the country’s most respected luthiers. Gerard Gilet has been producing high-level handmade instruments for over 30 years, earning a strong international reputation among professional musicians and serious players. His guitars are increasingly sought after, particularly as his output has reduced in recent years.

This smaller “travel” body design reflects Gilet’s highly considered approach to acoustic construction, where every structural element is engineered for optimal responsiveness and tonal balance. The top is hand-thinned from centre to edge and supported by solid internal linings, allowing energy to move freely while maintaining structural rigidity. This results in increased top vibration and a highly responsive, lively acoustic voice.

The bracing is individually scalloped and tuned in relation to the back rather than applied generically, ensuring a cohesive resonance between all components. Back and side thicknesses are precisely calibrated to enhance overall projection and tonal complexity, reflecting a meticulous, measurement-based approach to acoustic design.

Built from carefully selected tonewoods, ranging from traditional to Australian and exotic species, this instrument reflects Gilet’s commitment to both material excellence and sonic refinement. His guitars are played internationally and have been chosen by respected artists including Sting, alongside many professional Australian musicians and dedicated collectors.
