Turn this guitar over and you’ll know it’s a Supreme. The back is carved, book-matched figured maple that glows a deep amber, a detail that sets the Supreme apart from every other Les Paul. This one is from 2003, the first year Gibson made the model, with serial number 03513632.
The top matches the back, and both sit over a mahogany body that keeps the weight comfortable. Cream multi-ply binding runs around the edges, and the bound ebony fingerboard carries diagonally cut pearl block inlays. The black headstock has the pearl Gibson logo and a Supreme globe inlay in abalone and mother of pearl, with an engraved gold truss rod cover, and the gold hardware includes Grover tuners, a tune-o-matic bridge and a stopbar tailpiece.
The sound is as rich as the looks. The maple top and back add clarity and sparkle to the warmth of mahogany, and the pickups are a well-matched pair. The 490R in the neck position uses an Alnico II magnet for a smooth, warm and rounded tone, and the 498T in the bridge position uses an Alnico V magnet for more bite and punch. That gives you creamy blues leads, classic rock crunch and heavier tones, all with long sustain. The guitar has been recently refretted, so the playing feel is fresh and fast. It’s in excellent condition, and it comes in its original black Gibson Custom Art Historic hardshell case with a burgundy plush interior.
