Gibson Custom '64 SG Standard VOS - USA 2024

Gibson's SG Standard arrived in 1961 as the swept away, double cutaway replacement for the Les Paul, and by 1964 it had settled into the shape most players now think of first when they picture an SG: sharp devil horns, a slim fast mahogany neck and block position markers running up the fretboard. Gibson Custom Shop's 1964 SG Standard reissue recreates that model in full, built to the original specifications with period correct hardware, giving players the same feel and voice that made the SG such a natural fit for the harder edged rock guitarists of the mid 60s.

This particular example, serial number 402824, is finished in Faded Cherry over mahogany, a thin, era appropriate nitrocellulose finish that lets the mahogany's grain show through rather than sitting under a thick modern gloss coat. It carries the full historic spec sheet, a Maestro Vibrola vibrato with the engraved lyre harp and Gibson script, block inlays paired with a crown inlay on the headstock, individually mounted keystone tuners and a pair of uncovered humbucking pickups through an ABR 1 style bridge. The neck is slim and fast in hand, exactly as the original spec intended, and the two humbuckers deliver a full bodied, articulate tone with real dynamic range across the volume and tone controls, equally happy with clean, chiming tones or pushed into a harder rock voice. It was bought new and has never been played by its owner, so it presents essentially as it left the Custom Shop.

Condition is as new to mint throughout, with no play wear anywhere on the neck, frets or body. It comes complete in its original hardshell case along with the full suite of case candy, Certificate of Authenticity, historic hang tags, owner's manual and polish cloth, exactly as supplied from the factory.
