The Jaguar is a classic from Fender that has lived two separate lives - first as the instrument that inspired ‘60s garage rock & surf bands, and then reborn as one of the models of choice for 1990s indie, alternative, and grunge rockers. From Kevin Shields of My Bloody Valentine churning out mountains of feedback to Tom Verlaine’s intricate playing for punk pioneers Television, the Jaguar has established itself as much more than a niche model.
This particular example is from 1964 and features clay dot inlays, no neck binding, Kluson Deluxe tuners and dark Brazilian rosewood fingerboard. It has been professionally refinished, by industry respected luthier Alan Rigg, in Fender’s custom colour of Candy Apple Red.
The Fender Jaguar single coil pickups sound just fine, with a wide variety of tones available via the rocker switches and selectable rhythm circuit. It sports the Fender floating vibrato system as well as the original Jaguar bridge and push-in trem arm.
The 24” scale maple neck has a comfortable D-profile and measures 1 5/8th” at the nut with a lovely dark Brazilian rosewood finger board. There is very little fret wear apparent and there’s lots of life left in these original vintage frets.
There is some player wear visible but due to the high-quality refinish, the guitar looks a lot younger thank its 59 years. The top is clean, with some natural wear on the sides but nothing offensive!
All electronics work as they should.
Weighs in at 8.14 lbs
This is a lovely ‘64 L Series Jaguar with some serious mojo, and in great condition. It also happens to be a great player – beautiful neck, low action, no buzz. Sounds like a vintage Jag should – chimey & woody, jangly & snarly - whatever you want!
Comes in its original Fender black tolex case in good condition.
