Pickup currently unavailable
The 1979 Gibson Les Paul Standard exudes a timeless coolness that resonates with musicians and collectors alike. Embodying the vintage charm of its era, this guitar stands as a testament to the classic Les Paul design with its carved maple top on a mahogany body. The unmistakable humbucking pickups from Gibson, a hallmark of Les Paul sound since the late 1950s, contribute to the instrument's allure.
Beyond its aesthetic and tonal qualities, the 1979 Les Paul Standard carries a unique character, with each instrument showcasing distinct variations in wood, finish, and craftsmanship. As a relic from a transitional period for Gibson in the late '70s, this guitar holds historical significance, representing an intriguing chapter in the evolution of guitar manufacturing.
This LP Standard has a cool story to tell – currently owned by the manager of some big US-based artists and bands in the 70s and 80s. This particular guitar was owned by Harvey Brooks – predominantly a bass player who played in Bob Dylan’s backing band in the 60s, also playing with the Doors, Stephen Stills, the Electric Flag, Miles Davis over his illustrious career. This guitar was used as a management commission payment to its current owner who has cherished the guitar ever since.
Along with a cool background story – this LP Standard looks, plays and sounds just as an all-original late 70s Les Paul should. The guitar displays some player wear including the odd nick or bruise, some buckle rash, and light wear on the frets but still plenty of life. The slim ‘C’ profile neck is remarkably clean, making this guitar a joy to play. There is a small crack on the pickguard joining the screw closest to the fingerboard – common place on guitars of this vintage.
Acquiring a 1979 Gibson Les Paul Standard is a plunge into vintage excellence. Boasting the timeless Les Paul design and original humbucking pickups, this guitar offers iconic aesthetics and a distinctive tone. A must see!
