Vintage Gibson L-00 - USA 1934
Pickup currently unavailable
The Gibson L-00 is one of the most iconic small-body acoustics of the pre-war era, revered for its dry, woody response and unmistakable vintage character. Built during Gibson's golden era acoustic production, these lightweight instruments are highly sought after for their craftsmanship, tone, and historical significance.
Built at Gibson's Kalamazoo, Michigan factory in 1934, this L-00 is from a particularly desirable early run. Guitars from this year are more lightly built than later L-00s, with a thinner top and skinnier bracing, giving them an especially open, complex voice that collectors and players both chase. These guitars are best known for their focused midrange, quick attack, and direct voice, making them a cornerstone of early blues, folk, and roots music. This example features an era-correct pronounced V-shaped neck that feels substantial and comfortable in the hand.
The original sunburst finish shows checking and honest player wear throughout, giving the instrument a sense of life that only decades of use can provide.
Condition and required work:
This guitar has genuine age and character, and needs some attention before it's fully playable. A full condition report is available on request, and buyers are encouraged to review it before purchase. In summary:
- Neck reset required (approx. 6mm underset at bridge, slight rising tongue above the 14th fret)
- Frets 1-3 have been replaced previously but are not fully seated, with some fretboard chip-out in that area
- Bridge is lifting and requires regluing
- Several top and back braces have come loose and need regluing
- A hide glue cloth patch is present inside the back, with some old glue residue on the back and sides
- One tuner bushing is missing
- A crack to the back has been professionally repaired in the past, and the guitar has had a prior refret
Given the scope of work, we recommend factoring a professional service (neck reset, partial refret, bridge and brace regluing) into your purchase decision. We're happy to provide a price reflecting the guitar's as-is condition.
Supplied with a non-original case. A compelling, honest example for collectors and players who value transparency and real-world vintage history.
