SOLD - Fender Stratocaster Fiesta Red ex Phil Emmanuel - USA 1963

Here is a rare original 1963 pre-L Series Fender Stratocaster in Fiesta Red, a highly desirable early-’60s example with strong provenance and a notable performance history. This guitar was owned and extensively played by Australian guitarist Phil Emmanuel, and is believed to have featured in his performances during the late ’70s and ’80s, where his signature Hank Marvin and Mark Knopfler-inspired style brought it to life on stage.

Finished in original factory Fiesta Red, a DuPont automotive colour used on select pre-CBS Fenders, this Strat represents one of the most celebrated eras of Fender production. The finish remains original and beautifully aged, retaining its deep glow with natural wear, chips, and dings from decades of genuine use, with no body refinishing or touch-ups.

This example retains its original 3-position pickup switch and delivers the classic early-’60s Strat tone—airy, articulate, and unmistakably Fender, with that open and dynamic character associated with pre-CBS instruments. It has had a professional refret and features several replaced saddle height adjustment screws, along with some historical work under the pickguard that has since been restored and refinished to closely match the original Fiesta Red body.

Playability is excellent, with a smooth, well-worn maple neck that has naturally worn back to bare wood, giving it a fast, comfortable, and broken-in feel. The guitar is highly responsive and resonates freely, offering the signature early-’60s Strat sound with clarity and depth.

Condition is very good for its age, showing honest wear consistent with a well-played vintage instrument. It comes with documentation signed by Phil Emmanuel confirming ownership from 1977 to 1981, adding significant provenance to its history.
