De Gruchy

De Gruchy Dobro Square Neck - Aus 2004
Pickup currently unavailable
Built in 2004 by the late Bryan De Gruchy, one of Australia’s most respected and soulful luthiers, this square-neck resonator stands as a beautiful example of his craftsmanship and musical understanding. De Gruchy’s instruments are now highly sought after for their tone, build quality, and unique voice – each a rare piece of Australian luthiery history since his passing in 2016.
Modelled after the Jerry Douglas–style Scheerhorn resonators, this guitar features an open-body, soundpost design rather than a traditional soundwell, giving it a more spacious, modern tonal character with strong projection and a rich low-end response. It’s built with a mahogany top, back and sides, paired with an ebony bridge and a Quarterman cone imported from the USA – a combination that yields exceptional clarity, sustain, and dynamic sensitivity.
This example shows a few small bumps and bruises from honest use but remains fully player-ready, with no structural issues and a lively, open tone. A felt protection strip has been fitted along the bass side of the body to prevent slide wear; it can be easily removed if desired.
It comes complete with its original alligator-style case, adding a touch of vintage charm and collectability to an already special instrument. A rare and resonant piece of Australian craftsmanship, built for players who appreciate tone, touch, and history.
