SOLD - Vintage Gretsch 6120 Chet Atkins - USA 1963

Here is a 1963 Gretsch 6120, a classic hollow-body electric developed in close collaboration with Chet Atkins and widely regarded as one of the defining Gretsch designs of the 1950s and early ’60s. Originally introduced in 1955 as a response to the need for a more controlled, stage-ready hollow body guitar, the 6120 evolved significantly through the decade into a refined and highly musical instrument.

By the late 1950s, the introduction of Filter’Tron pickups brought improved clarity, reduced feedback, and a tighter low end, transforming the 6120 into a guitar that could perform confidently at higher volumes while retaining its signature open, airy Gretsch character. Through the early 1960s, further refinements such as the double-cutaway body improved upper fret access and overall balance, resulting in a more stable and versatile playing experience. By 1963, the model had reached a mature and well-resolved design, where construction, feel, and tone were fully aligned.

This example is finished in Western Orange and presents in good player-grade condition, showing light cosmetic wear across the body, neck, and hardware consistent with its age and use. It is understood to retain its original tuners, frets, gold pickguard, and bone nut, and is housed in its original hard shell case featuring custom Gretsch artwork.
