Fender Stevie Ray Vaughan Signature Stratocaster - USA 2001
Pickup currently unavailable
Stevie Ray Vaughan’s famous Number One was itself something of a parts caster. Purchased in 1973 from Ray Hennig’s Heart of Texas Music in Austin, the guitar had reportedly been traded in by Christopher Cross before Stevie acquired it. Originally a 1963 Stratocaster, it changed constantly over the years. It wore a 1962 neck for much of its life, featured oversized frets, a reversed left handed tremolo, heavy gauge strings, and numerous pickup and hardware replacements as components were swapped through relentless touring. The wear and modifications became inseparable from the tone and feel that defined his sound.
Before his untimely passing in 1990, Stevie helped reignite global interest in electric blues, blending Texas blues tradition with a ferocious attack and vocal phrasing that influenced a generation of players. In the years following his death, Fender introduced the Stevie Ray Vaughan Signature Stratocaster as a tribute to both his music and the instrument that shaped it, incorporating the thicker neck carve, aesthetic cues, and tonal direction associated with Number One.
This 2001 example is in very good condition and presents extremely well overall. The neck has a great feeling substantial carve that sits comfortably in the hand, echoing Stevie’s preference for a fuller profile. It comes supplied with its original tweed hard shell case manufactured by G&G Cases, making it a complete and well kept example of one of Fender’s most recognisable artist models.
