Vintage Vox AC-30/6 Super Twin with Reverb - UK 1964

Few amplifiers in history have left a mark as deep as the Vox AC-30. Since its introduction in the late 1950s, it has become one of the most iconic and widely used amplifiers in rock and pop music, defining the sound of countless legendary artists. The AC-30/6 Super Twin with Reverb, produced in the early 1960s, was a more versatile take on the classic AC-30, offering an expanded feature set while retaining the unmistakable chime, warmth, and breakup that made these amps legendary.
The 1964 Vox AC-30/6 Super Twin was designed as a head-and-cabinet configuration rather than the more common combo format. This allowed for better sound dispersion and reduced stage vibrations, making it a favourite among touring musicians who needed that signature Vox tone with added flexibility.
This amp delivers everything you'd want from a vintage Vox—lush, sparkling cleans, complex mids, and a rich overdrive when pushed hard. Whether you’re playing crystal-clear chords, jangly rhythms, or singing lead lines, the AC-30/6 Super Twin excels at delivering depth, clarity, and harmonic richness.
This is a 1964 Vox AC-30/6 Super Twin “Normal” model, confirmed by its serial number (8855N) and internal layout. It was originally built without factory Top Boost or reverb, but has since had a Hammond spring reverb unit professionally installed, offering lush, vintage-style ambience that complements the amp’s naturally spacious tone.
It has also undergone a full restoration by Matt at Turramurra Music in Sydney, and now features two new Vox speakers to ensure it delivers the classic AC-30 sound with full frequency response. Internally, the amp retains much of its original circuitry, with some capacitors and components replaced as part of the restoration. Importantly, it still has its original Albion OH083 output transformer, a correct and desirable feature for this era.
Cosmetically, the amp is in good condition, with its original grille cloth intact and some scuff marks on the black tolex that reflect its vintage character. It’s fully functional and sounds phenomenal following expert restoration. A speaker cabinet cover is also included for safe transport and storage.
The Vox AC-30 is synonymous with some of the biggest names in music history. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Shadows, Queen’s Brian May, Tom Petty, U2’s The Edge, and Radiohead’s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood have all relied on AC-30s to shape their signature tones. From the jangly, chimey rhythm sounds of early British Invasion bands to the screaming leads of modern rock, this amp continues to be an essential tool for discerning players.
At Premier Guitars, we love vintage amps with character, history, and tone—and this 1964 Vox AC-30/6 Super Twin with Reverb embodies all of those qualities. It’s not just an amplifier; it’s a piece of rock & roll history, fully restored and ready to bring its magic to a new generation of players.
