This 1991 Mesa Boogie Mark IV 1x12” combo is an absolute powerhouse — a deceptively compact amp with immense versatility and tonal range. Boasting 85 watts of all-tube firepower, it delivers everything from shimmering cleans to thick, saturated leads with ease. The triple-channel layout and wide footswitch options allow for seamless transitions between crystal-clear articulation and rich, harmonically complex overdrive. One of our favourite tricks at Premier is engaging the “harmonics” switch — resulting in long, musical sustain and glorious feedback that sings.

The Mesa Boogie Mark IV came in two versions: the early “A” model (1990–1993) and the later “B” model (1993–2008). The A version, like this one, is prized for its rawer, more aggressive tone — particularly in the lead channel — and has a grittier, more vintage edge. The B version smoothed things out with quieter operation, refined switching, and slightly more polished voicing. While both are incredibly versatile, many players favour the A for its punch and character, making it a cult favourite among early Mark IV enthusiasts.

Weighing in at a hefty 37.6kg, it’s no featherweight, but that’s down to the robust construction and serious sonic output. This one includes its original caster wheels and Mesa Boogie protective cover, making it easier to move and preserve. The onboard spring reverb behaves exactly as it should — lush, splashy, and beautifully voiced.

Tone shaping is extensive, with pre-gain controls for each channel and a five-band post-gain graphic EQ. Cranking the treble into the gain stages while pulling back the highs on the EQ gives a focused, articulate drive tone with a singing lead character. Push the lows and low mids pre-gain and you’re into glorious fuzz territory. The possibilities are endless for sculpting your own sound.

This example is in superb condition, showing minimal wear. The tolex is clean and intact, the grille cloth is excellent, and all knobs and switches are present and functioning perfectly.
