Vintage National Style 'O' 14-Fret - USA 1934
Pickup currently unavailable
Here is a 1934 National Style O resonator guitar, one of the most iconic and historically significant designs in the world of acoustic instruments. Developed during the early years of the National brand—pioneers of resonator guitar construction—this model represents a key moment in the evolution of guitar design and tone.
This example features a steel body with a single spun aluminium resonator cone, delivering the unmistakable bright, cutting, and metallic tone that has defined resonator guitars for generations. The sound is powerful and focused, with strong projection and a distinctive character that stands apart from traditional wooden acoustics.
This example features a 14-fret neck configuration, introduced in 1934, offering greater access up the fretboard compared to earlier 12-fret versions. The mahogany neck has a pronounced vintage V-profile, providing an authentic period-correct feel. The guitar also retains its original resonator cone, an important detail for both tonal integrity and collectability.
Aesthetically, the guitar showcases the famous “palm tree” or “chicken foot” cover plate design, one of the most recognisable visual elements of the Style O. This ornate detailing, combined with the metal body construction, gives the instrument a striking and unmistakable appearance.
Playability is strong, with the guitar having been professionally set up and maintained by respected luthier Alan Rigg. It offers a unique and inspiring playing experience, particularly suited to blues, slide, and fingerstyle applications.
Condition is very good for its age, having been well cared for since its purchase in Indiana, USA in 2008. It presents as a clean and well-maintained vintage instrument with no noted structural concerns.
