Vintage Ibanez Artist 2630 - Japan 1979
Pickup currently unavailable
Here is a 1979 Ibanez Artist 2630, a rare late-’70s semi-hollow that represents the peak of Ibanez’s Artist series craftsmanship before the transition to the AS200. Built during a period when Ibanez was producing instruments that directly rivalled top-tier American guitars, the 2630 remains one of the most refined and sought-after models from this era.
This example features a double-cutaway semi-hollow maple body with a solid centre block, delivering a balanced blend of warmth, clarity, and feedback control. The construction provides strong resonance and sustain while maintaining excellent articulation, making it highly versatile across jazz, blues, and rock applications.
It is fitted with a bound ebony 22-fret fingerboard featuring elegant abalone block inlays, offering a smooth, fast playing surface with premium visual detail. The set-neck construction enhances sustain and stability, contributing to a solid and responsive feel across the entire instrument.
Electronics consist of dual Ibanez Super 80 “Flying Finger” humbuckers, delivering a wide tonal range from warm, articulate cleans through to focused, expressive overdrive. The guitar also features a tune-o-matic style bridge with stop tailpiece and Sure-Grip control knobs for precise and reliable operation.
Condition is excellent player grade, showing light cosmetic wear consistent with age while remaining structurally sound and fully functional. Frets show minimal wear, and all hardware and electronics operate as intended, with natural vintage patina throughout.
