Vintage Fender Precision Bass Refinish - USA 1960
Pickup currently unavailable
Here’s a seriously cool slice of Fender history — an early '60 Precision Bass with unmistakable attitude, undeniable tone, and vintage mojo in all the right places. With its Olympic White refinish glowing with a warm, creamy patina and just the right amount of playwear, this P is a heart-stopper.
We believe originally to be a Sunburst, the body was refinished decades ago, now displaying a mellowed, era-correct Olympic White that pairs beautifully with the tortoiseshell guard and classic curves. There’s some overspray on the side of the headstock, but the original Fender spaghetti decal is still proudly intact. The neck is dated 8-60 and features a slab Brazilian rosewood fingerboard with beautiful clay dot markers — a defining spec of the golden era. It’s been expertly refretted, ensuring buttery playability while staying true to vintage feel. The action is spot on, and the neck feels alive in your hands — smooth, resonant, and addictive.
Plug it in and you’ll understand immediately why these early P-Basses are so revered. The original pickups and covers are present, with a tidy fresh wire-out. It delivers that classic P-Bass bark — full, focused, with the kind of clarity and punch that’s been heard on countless iconic recordings. It sounds like a record the moment you touch a note.
The hardware is a great mix of vintage originality and pro upgrades: original bridge, tuners (one with a slight bend but still holding tune), and bone nut, plus a vintage-correct ‘62 grounding shield, original tortoise guard, and a reissue tugbar for that classic look. The neck plate, while not the original, is a genuine Fender 1960 plate — period correct and very cool. Knobs are vintage Fender parts. Even the case has swagger — a vintage Jazz Bass hardshell, rugged and right for the era.
These early ‘60 P-Basses are the real deal — incredibly hard to come by, especially with this much vibe and originality. Whether you're a collector, studio player, or performer, this one is ready to shine.
