Gibson Flying V '67 Reissue - USA 2009
Pickup currently unavailable
Offered here is a clean and completely stock 2009 Gibson Flying V '67 Reissue, finished in striking Cherry Red and housed in its original Gibson hard case. This is a faithful recreation of one of Gibson’s boldest and most iconic designs—an instrument that was ahead of its time in 1958 and found new life in the hands of hard rock and metal pioneers throughout the late ‘60s and beyond.
Originally introduced in 1958 as part of Gibson’s radical “modernistic” series (alongside the Explorer and the elusive Moderne), the Flying V wasn’t fully embraced until it was reissued in 1967 with some key updates. That reissue, with its sharp lines, chrome hardware, and slim neck, became the blueprint for countless heavy rock tones. This 2009 version pays homage to that exact model, right down to the angled headstock, pickguard-mounted electronics, and ABR-1 bridge with stopbar tailpiece.
Artists like Jimi Hendrix, Albert King, Michael Schenker, and Rudolf Schenker famously embraced the Flying V, helping to redefine its legacy as an instrument of power, attitude, and unmistakable stage presence. And it’s not just about looks—the Flying V is surprisingly comfortable to play, whether seated or strapped on, thanks to its well-balanced mahogany body and slim taper neck.
This one plays like a dream. The factory-set classic Gibson humbuckers are articulate, warm, and punchy—perfect for everything from creamy blues leads to searing high-gain riffing. The neck is fast and smooth, the action low and responsive, and sustain is abundant thanks to its solid mahogany construction and high-quality hardware.
This example is in excellent cosmetic condition with no buckle rash, no neck or top marks, and only the lightest swirling on the pickguard. Frets are in great shape and everything remains completely original and unmodified. It’s clean, resonant, and absolutely ready to rock.
