Cargill Guitars Custom - AUS
Pickup currently unavailable
Founded in 1956 by Merv Cargill after completing an apprenticeship in violin manufacturing, Cargill Custom Guitars has become synonymous with precision and passion in the guitar industry. Merv’s meticulous craftsmanship and dedication to achieving optimal tonality and finish quickly elevated the Cargill name, attracting notable musicians from his garage workshop in Melbourne’s Seaford suburb.
Finished in a beautiful natural gloss, this custom example showcases a superb selection of tonewoods, featuring Tasmanian Blackwood back and sides paired with a striking Bearclaw Sitka Spruce top. The mahogany neck and ebony fingerboard complete a classic and elegant timber combination that is both visually refined and tonally balanced.
In the hands, the guitar feels lively and highly responsive, with a clear, articulate voice that projects beautifully. The Bearclaw Sitka Spruce contributes crisp definition and dynamic headroom, while the Tasmanian Blackwood adds warmth and depth through the midrange. Combined with its comfortable body size, the instrument is exceptionally well suited to fingerstyle playing and more nuanced arrangements, offering clarity, balance and a sweet natural sustain.
Stamped with serial number 1223, and a build date of 12/10/1998 this guitar stands as a distinctive example of modern Australian guitar making and reflects the care, precision and tonal focus that come from a dedicated small-workshop approach.
